Off grid applications are stand alone systems found in places where utility generated power is either unavailable or cost prohibitive. These systems vary in use from charging batteries for boaters, to supplying electricity to lights or water pumps in remote villages.
Between 2006 and 2007, 207MW of off-grid solar power was installed worldwide, representing 20% of the total capacity installed during this timeframe (MarketBuzz 2007).
